Overview
This set of charts displays a selected measure of performance on state assessments
(participation rate, proficiency rate or average scale score) by year and grade level.
The default display for the report shows state-level data, although the user can select a district
in which case the district’s data will be displayed alongside the state-level data as a reference
point. Along with the measure of performance, the user can also toggle between the subject
(English language arts, math, science) and student group (all students, English learners,
low socio-economic status (FRL), students with disabilities (IEP) or by race/ethnicity)
data is being displayed for. Small cell sizes are redacted within this report
(points on the chart will not be displayed if they’re redacted).
Data Source
The data source for this page is calculations by the Iowa Department of Education, Bureau of Information
and Analysis Services using data from the Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress
(ISASP, provided by Iowa Testing Programs) and the Dynamic Learning Maps (DLM) alternate assessment for
students with the most significant cognitive disabilities. The participation rate and proficiency rate
measures include data from both ISASP and DLM while the average scale score measure includes only data
from the ISASP.
Definitions
-
School District: the district the student was accountable to for state
assessments during the spring of the year of the assessment administration
-
Grade Level: There is one chart for each tested grade level (third through eleventh)
within this report. The first chart displayed is an aggregate of all grades tested, although Average Scale Score
is not available for this aggregated data.
-
Average Scale Score: The average scale score measure includes only students
who took the Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (ISASP). A scale score is a score the student
received on the ISASP which allows for comparisons across grades and years. The average scale score for
a group of students is simply the average of the individual student scale scores within that group.
This report reflects all tested students, so it differs from the ‘Accountability view’ of the Iowa
School Performance Profiles website (it instead aligns with the ‘In-depth view’ of the ISPP).
-
Note: The 2020-2021 data for this measure is available, although the results of
students who took the ISASP remotely in an unproctored environment are not included in this measure
(3.4% of all tested students statewide took the ISASP remotely).
-
Participation Rate: The participation rate measure is, among the students enrolled
at the time of testing in the spring, the percent who tested (in the selected subject) in either the Iowa
Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (ISASP) or the Dynamic Learning Maps (DLM) alternate assessment for
students with the most significant cognitive disabilities.
-
Note: For the 2020-2021 data, students who took the ISASP remotely ARE included
in the participation rate as having participated.
-
Proficiency Rate: The proficiency rate measure is, among the students who took
the Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (ISASP) or the Dynamic Learning Maps (DLM) alternate
assessment for students with the most significant cognitive disabilities, the percent who scored proficient
or above (in the selected subject).
-
Note: The 2020-2021 data for this measure is available, although the results of students
who took the ISASP remotely in an unproctored environment are not included in this measure
(3.4% of all tested students statewide took the ISASP remotely).
-
All Students: all of the students fitting the current filter configuration;
if no filters are selected, the default is the English language arts (ELA) proficiency rate state total
-
English Learners (EL): students who are in the process of acquiring English
proficiency and have a first language other than English or in addition to English. The EL status remains
with the student until they test proficient on the English Language Proficiency Assessment (ELPA21).
-
Low Socio-Economic Status (FRL): students who are eligible for either free or reduced-price lunch
-
Students with Disabilities (IEP): students who have an Individualized Education Program (IEP)
-
Race/Ethnicity: since 2009-2010, all Iowa students identified as "Hispanic/Latino" ethnicity,
regardless of race, are reported as "Hispanic/Latino;" the following are the reported student groups:
- American Indian or Alaska Native
- Asian
- Black or African American
- Hispanic/Latino
- Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander
- Two or More Races
- White
