Overview
This chart displays characteristics of full-time licensed staff, organized
by Area Education Agencies (AEAs) and Academic District,
employed during specific years. Yearly data can be viewed at the total (or state) level, or at
an individual, or by one or more, School District(s) level. School districts can be easily compared
within the same AEA.

the data source is the Basic Educational Data Survey (BEDS) fall submission
Definitions

Staff: this page's data only includes individuals who are full-time,
Iowa licensed employees. These staff are required to be licensed according to the
Iowa Administrative Rule 281-12.4 by the Board of Educational Examiners
to perform their duties; when the Staff Count is displayed without
any filters set, it typically shows the State Wide totals; otherwise the total is
based on the configuration of the filters.

AEA (Area Education Agency) Name: the state of Iowa currently has nine
Area Education Agencies (AEAs);
these AEAs function as intermediate service units, and assisting
the Iowa Department of Education (IDOE) in
providing services and support to both school districts and schools;
yearly data can be viewed at the State level, at (one or more) AEA(s) level,
or by individual (or multiple) School District(s) within specific AEA(s)

Select Year: a user can select the academic year associated with the
staff's assignment as of October 1st of the reported year

Percentage Female: the percent of staff who are of Female Gender;
the total Male Gender can be calculated by subtracting the
Female Value from Staff Count

Percentage Advanced Degree: the portion of all the staff in a State or a,
School/AEA District, or in various Staff Positions that currently hold a degree higher than
a Bachelor’s Degree ; such as a Master's Degree, or a Doctorate Degree,

Average Total Experience: number of years a full-timed, licensed staff, has been continuously
employed in any School District or AEA in a licensed position.

Average District (or AEA Experience): number of years a full-timed, licensed staff,
has been employed in a single School District or AEA in a licensed position

Percent Minority: a percentage of the total number of staff,
who do not identify themselves as White as their Race/Ethnicity category

First Year Staff: percentage of staff count are still in their first year in this particular assignment

Average Total Salary: an average of all the full-time licensed staff from which to compare;
by utilizing the Select Staff Group filter and the Select Staff Position filter,
the user could can really dive into which Districts or AEAs are paying the most for various staff types

When "AEA" is selected for Enrollment Category) the staff displayed are limited to those who
work directly for an Area Education Agency instead of working for a School District that is part of an
