Overview
This chart displays the count and percentage of students who took at least one course in a selected area for the two most recent high school graduating classes (those enrolled in Iowa public high schools in each of the four years from grades 9 to 12) by district. The students are grouped by common student population subgroups, including race/ethnicity, gender and special program eligibility (English learners (EL), students with disabilities (IEP) and students who are eligible for free or reduced-price lunch (FRL)). The selected courses are: Algebra II, higher-level mathematics, chemistry, physics, high-quality computer science and world languages.
Data Source
The data source for this page is the Student Reporting in Iowa (SRI) winter submission for the year the students started 9th grade and the three years following. Course data includes the courses students completed in the fall term and courses students were taking in the spring term at the time of data submission (typically January). For those districts on trimester schedules, courses students were enrolled in for the third trimester are also included.
Definitions

-
All Students: all of the students fitting the current filter configuration; if no filters are selected, the default is the state total for Algebra II for the most recent graduating class
-
English Learners (EL): students who are in the process of acquiring English proficiency and have a first language other than English or in addition to English. The EL status remains with the student until s/he tests proficient on the English Language Proficiency Assessment (ELPA21). Students are counted as English learners for the purpose of these data if they had an EL status at any point during their high school career.
-
Low Socio-Economic Status (FRL): students who were eligible for either free or reduced-price lunch at any point during their high school career
-
Students with Disabilities (IEP): students who had an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) at any point during their high school career
-
Race/Ethnicity: since 2009-2010, all Iowa students identified as
"Hispanic" ethnicity, regardless of race, are reported as "Hispanic;" the following are the
reported subgroups:
- Asian
- Black/African American
- Hawaiian or Pacific Islander
- Hispanic
- Multi-Racial
