Overview

This chart displays characteristics of full-time licensed staff, organized by Enrollment Category (size) and Academic District, employed during specific years. Yearly data can be viewed at the total, or State, level, or at an individual (or) one or more, School District(s) level. School districts of a similar size can be easily compared by selecting districts within the same Enrollment Category.

The data source is the Basic Educational Data Survey (BEDS) fall submission

Definitions

1. Staff:  this page's data only includes individuals who are full-time, Iowa licensed employees. These staff are required to be licensed according to the Iowa Administrative Rule 281-12.4 by the Board of Educational Examiners to perform their duties; when the Staff Count is displayed without any filters set, the table typically shows the State Wide totals; otherwise the total is based on the configuration of the filters
2. Select Year:   a user can select the academic year associated with the staff's assignment as of October 1st of the reported year
3. Select by Enrollment Category (size) Filter:   the user can filter the data displayed to one or more specific Enrollment Categories review
4. Select AEA Name:  the School District or AEA where the staff worked as of October 1st of the reported year
5. Total Staff Count: when the Staff Count is displayed without any filters set, it typically shows the State Wide totals; otherwise the total is based on the configuration of the filters
6. Average Age: the average age of the Staff not excluded by filter
7. Percentage Female: the percent of staff who are of Female Gender; the total Male Gender can be calculated by subtracting the Female Value from Staff Count
8. Percentage Advanced Degree: the portion of all the staff in a State or a, School/AEA District, or in various Staff Positions that currently hold a degree higher than a Bachelor’s Degree ; such as a Master's Degree, or a Doctorate Degree,
9. Average Total Experience: number of years a full-timed, licensed staff, has been continuously employed in any School District or AEA in a licensed position.
10. Average District (or AEA Experience): number of years a full-timed, licensed staff, has been employed in a single School District or AEA in a licensed position
11. Percent Minority: a percentage of the total number of staff, who do not identify themselves as White as their Race/Ethnicity category
12. First Year Staff: percentage of staff count are still in their first year in this particular assignment
13. Average Total Salary: an average of all the full-time licensed staff from which to compare; by utilizing the Select Staff Group filter and the Select Staff Position filter, the user could can really dive into which Districts or AEAs are paying the most for various staff types

1. Year Selector:  the user selects the Academic Year, they wish to review data from
2. Select By Enrollment Category (Size):   there are six enrollment categories in the state. They are determined by district certified enrollment. The categories are:
   • Under 300
   • 300 to 599
   • 600 to 999
   • 1,000 to 2,499
   • 2,500 to 7,400
   • 7,500 or more
   • AEA

   
   

   When "AEA" is selected for Enrollment Category) the staff displayed are limited to those who work directly for an Area Education Agency instead of working for a School District that is part of an AEA

3. Select by District or AEA Name Filter:   the user can select one or more specific School District to review; this filter also contains the list of AEA names for staff that work directly for an Area Education Agency instead of working for a School District
